Owner of Sresan Pharma, maker of coldrif syrup, arrested following 20 childrens deaths

PTC News Desk: The owner of Sresan Pharmaceuticals, the company that produces Coldrif cough syrup, has been arrested following the deaths of at least 19 children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Tests revealed that the syrup contained high levels of the toxic industrial chemical diethylene glycol. His arrest came soon after being taken into custody for questioning by Madhya Pradesh Police.

Tamil Nadu Drugs Control Department laid bare the unhygienic conditions under which the cough syrup was manufactured. Among the 350 violations flagged by the state regulatory body were rusted equipment and the illegal use of non-pharma-grade chemicals.
