PTC Web Desk: In a tragic road accident on the Jalandhar-Amritsar National Highway early Wednesday morning, two youths lost their lives and three others sustained serious injuries after their car collided with a truck carrying iron rods.
The incident occurred around 5 am between Kartarpur and Dayalpur when a Baleno car heading toward Amritsar crashed into the rear of the truck. The impact was so severe that the car was completely mangled, and the passengers were impaled by the protruding iron rods.
Two of the occupants, Chand (22) and Nikhil Sharma (21), both residents of Amritsar, died on the spot. The three other passengers, identified as Shubham, Kohli, and Rudra, sustained critical injuries. Local residents and police worked together to rescue the victims trapped inside the vehicle. One of the injured was rushed to a hospital in Amritsar, while two others were referred to Jalandhar for advanced treatment.
The police reached the scene soon after receiving information and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. The truck driver reportedly fled the scene following the collision, and a search operation has been launched to trace him. According to preliminary reports, the truck had braked suddenly due to dense fog, leading to the fatal crash.
Family members revealed that the five friends were on their way to attend a religious event at Valmiki Ashram in Jalandhar’s Shakti Nagar area. Rudra, one of the survivors, later informed relatives about the horrifying sight, saying that the iron rods had pierced through Chand and Nikhil’s bodies.
The police have registered a case based on the family’s statements and initial investigations. Authorities are scanning CCTV footage from the highway to identify the exact cause of the accident and ensure the arrest of the absconding truck driver, identified as Manjit Singh from Mandi Gobindgarh.
