As soon as staff members noticed flames and smoke rising from the vehicles, they immediately alerted the fire department. Fire tenders from Zirakpur and Dera Bassi were rushed to the spot and began firefighting operations.
According to sources, the incident occurred around 9 a.m., when all the vehicles were plugged in for charging. Within minutes, smoke turned into flames that quickly spread, engulfing nearly all the parked vehicles.
Zoo staff promptly cut off the power supply to the electric panel to prevent further damage, while firefighters worked to douse the flames. Due to the vehicles being electric, small explosions were reported, making the operation more challenging. However, after nearly 30 minutes of intense effort, the fire was brought under control.
