Ludhiana tragedy: A tragic accident marred the celebrations of Baisakhi in Ludhiana on Tuesday morning, when a sewadar lost his life while performing religious service at a local gurdwara.

The incident took place at Gurdwara Shri Singh Sabha in Kartar Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Atam Nagar police chowki on Dugri Road. The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Maninder Singh.

According to family members, Maninder had been serving at the gurdwara for over a decade and regularly took part in the sewa of changing the ‘chola’ of Nishan Sahib on special religious occasions, including Sankranti and Baisakhi.

On Tuesday morning, he had climbed up using a crane to replace chola of Nishan Sahib. Eyewitnesses said he had successfully completed the task at a height of nearly 80 feet and was preparing to descend when the iron cable of the crane suddenly snapped.
