Mohali court acquits Bishnoi, three others in Arms Act case, one convicted
The prosecution’s case against Bishnoi and the others further weakened when the investigating officer failed to finish his testimony.
PTC News Desk: A local court in Mohali acquitted gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and three others in 2022 Arms Act case while convicting one accused, Sonu of Meerut, for illegal possession of firearms.
The case was filed at Sohana police station on November 19, 2022, after ASI Gurpratap Singh received information about Sonu, a proclaimed offender involved in several robbery cases across Punjab, Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh.
Sonu was caught near TDI City, Landran, carrying a bag with four pistols (.32 bore), one pistol (.315 bore), and ammunition. Based on his disclosures, others including Deepak Pundir alias Deepu, Bikramjit Singh, and Aseem alias Hashem Baba were also arrested. However, the court noted that custodial statements without supporting evidence have no legal weight, and no additional recoveries were made.
The prosecution’s case against Bishnoi and the others further weakened when the investigating officer failed to finish his testimony. The court instead relied on the statement of sub-inspector Deepak Singh, who verified that the weapons were recovered from Sonu.
