Punjab shocker: Family of three dies by suicide in Malerkotla over alleged financial distress
The police have launched further investigation into the matter to ascertain exact circumstances behind the suicide.
PTC News Desk: In a shocking turn of events, three members of a family died by suicide in Punjab's Malerkotla. A widow, her elderly mother and nine-year-old son-all of them consumed poison. The widow before death recorded a video in which she cited financial distress and accused 10 people of harassing her over money-related disputes.
Based on the video, a case of abetment to suicide has been registered against 10 people including victim's mother-in-law. The police have launched further investigation into the matter to ascertain exact circumstances behind the suicide.
According to Malerkotla police, Inderpal Kaur (31), a resident of village Bhudan, ended her life along with her mother Hardeep Kaur and her nine-year-old son Jordan Singh. Investigations revealed that Inderpal’s husband, Pavandeep Singh, had died some time earlier, after which she left her in-laws’ house and started living at her parental home along with her son.
Police said the three consumed a poisonous substance on Tuesday night. Inderpal and her mother Hardeep Kaur died on the spot. At that time, Jordan was still alive. When he woke up in the morning and found that his mother and grandmother were not responding, he suspected they had died and immediately informed his grandmother (father’s side).
After being informed, local residents reached the spot and rushed Jordan to the hospital. However, the poison had already severely affected him, and he died on the way to the hospital.
