As Punjab voted in the Panchayat elections on Sunday, some eye-catching scenes grooms heading to polling stations before marriage venues - underscored the enthusiasm of the electorate.

From youngsters to elderly, politicians to bureaucrats, people from all sections of the society came out to get inked in the Panchayat elections.

A resident of Rajasansi preferred to vote first before marriage. “Talking to media, he said “I am glad that I am starting a new phase of my life on voting day as voting marks a celebration of democracy and it is our right to elect our policy makers,”

The voting began at 8 am and will conclude at 4 PM on Sunday. A total number of 17,268 polling booths has been set up across the state.The results of the Punjab Panchayat elections will be announced in the evening.Around 8000 candidates are contesting for the post of sarpanchas and panches in the state.
