WhatsApp announces ‘silence unknown callers’ feature amid rising scam calls
New WhatsApp feature: Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced a new privacy feature on messaging app WhatsApp called 'Silence Unknown Callers'.
According to WhatsApp, the feature aims to provide users with more control over their incoming calls by enhancing protection against spam, scams, and unknown callers. WhatsApp users can automatically screen out unwanted calls from unknown contacts by using the Silence Unknown Callers feature.
How does new feature work
The user's phone will not ring when an unknown caller calls. They will still continue to be visible in the call list, enabling users to review them later in case any important messages were received.

Zuckerberg stated in his statement that "You can now automatically silence incoming calls from unknown contacts on WhatsApp for even more privacy and control."
The new feature addresses concerns about the rising number of unwanted and intrusive calls.
The launch of the new feature coincides with an upsurge in WhatsApp spam and scams targeting Indian users. It is anticipated that fewer users would fall victim to fraud once the new feature is made available to all customers.
