Abhishek Sharma named ICC Player of the Month for September after stellar Asia Cup performance

PTC Web Desk: India’s rising left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma has been crowned the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for September 2025, following his remarkable run in the T20 Asia Cup, where he played a pivotal role in India’s title-winning campaign.
The 24-year-old opener provided explosive starts in six out of seven matches, scoring a total of 314 runs, which also earned him the Player of the Series award. His consistency and aggressive approach at the top of the order made him one of India’s key match-winners throughout the tournament.
Abhishek edged out fellow Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav and Zimbabwean opener Brian Bennett to win the monthly ICC honour. Kuldeep had impressed with 17 wickets in the Asia Cup, while Bennett’s ton in the T20 World Cup Qualifiers earned him a nomination.
Expressing his joy, Abhishek told ICC, “It feels great to win this award. I’m happy that my performances in crucial matches helped the team. I’m proud to be part of a squad that fights to win in any situation. Our T20 record shows the team’s positive mindset. I thank the team management for their constant support.”
During the Asia Cup 2025, Abhishek Sharma scored over 30 runs in six matches, including three half-centuries. His standout knocks included 74 against Pakistan in the Super Four stage and 75 against Bangladesh. He topped the tournament charts with the most runs and boundaries, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 200.
Abhishek’s Asia Cup heroics also propelled him to the No. 1 spot in the ICC T20I batting rankings with 931 rating points, the highest ever achieved by any player in T20I history. He broke the previous record held by England’s Dawid Malan, who had reached 919 points in 2020. From India, only Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli have previously crossed the 900-point mark.
Abhishek is currently representing Punjab in the Ranji Trophy but will soon join India’s T20 squad for the Australia tour starting October 29. The five-match series will conclude on November 8 in Brisbane.
