India U19 vs England U19: How Vaibhav Suryavanshis heroics powered India to World Cup title

England tried to chase the target but lost badly, falling short by 100 runs. Indian bowlers RS Ambrish and Kanishk Chauhan helped by taking key wickets.

PTC News Desk: After helping India win their sixth ICC Under-19 World Cup, young player Vaibhav Suryavanshi thanked the support staff while accepting his ‘Player of the Match’ and ‘Player of the Tournament’ awards. He said he always believed in his skills and his ability to perform in big matches.


Vaibhav played an amazing innings, scoring 175 runs in just 80 balls with 15 fours and 15 sixes. His performance helped India score a huge total of 411 runs for nine wickets. England tried to chase the target but lost badly, falling short by 100 runs. Indian bowlers RS Ambrish and Kanishk Chauhan helped by taking key wickets.


Speaking during the post-match presentation, Suryavanshi said, "Feeling really good. All the preparation, the effort from the support staff, all the games we played - the Asia Cup and the series leading up to this - everything has brought us to this moment. I want to dedicate this award to the entire support staff."


"The main goal was not to put too much pressure. We focused on believing in ourselves and trusting the process we have been following since the beginning of the tournament. The preparation started from the Asia Cup and even before that. For the last eight to nine months, the support staff and the team have been working together. That preparation has played a huge role in getting us to where we are today. I am very confident in the skill set I have developed. I know I can perform in big games and under pressure, so I stayed confident and kept believing," he added. 


Vaibhav finished the tournament as the second-highest run scorer. He made 439 runs in seven matches with one century, three half-centuries and a record 30 sixes, the most in this tournament. This performance helped him win the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award. His century was also the second-fastest in Under-19 World Cup history, and his 15 sixes in one innings is a tournament record.


India chose to bat first in the final. Along with Vaibhav’s brilliant innings, captain Ayush Mhatre scored 53 runs and Abhigyan Kundu added 40 runs, helping India reach a very big total.
