Finn Allen departs for 9. Suryakumar Yadav hands the ball to Axar Patel, switching it up against the powerful NZ duo, and it turns out to be a masterstroke. Allen goes on his back foot, looks to hit big, doesn't time it well enough, ends up finding Tilak Varma at long-on.

This is the third ICC final in three different formats over the last six years between India and New Zealand — 2021 World Test Championship, 2025 Champions Trophy (ODI), and the 2026 T20 World Cup.
New Zealand have a 2–1 record over India in ICC tournament finals. They won the Champions Trophy 2000 and the World Test Championship 2021, and lost the Champions Trophy last year.
Head-to-head, India lead New Zealand 18–11 with one tie, but New Zealand have a 3–0 record over India in T20 World Cups — Johannesburg 2007, Nagpur 2016, and Dubai 2021.
India have reached the final for the fourth time in T20 World Cups, the most by any team.
Six of the previous nine T20 World Cup finals have been won by the chasing side. Of the other three, two were won by India — in 2007 and 2024, both last-over finishes.

PTC News Desk: Co-hosts and defending champions India national cricket team will take on New Zealand national cricket team in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The venue holds mixed memories for India, as it was here that the team had earlier faced a heartbreaking defeat in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final.
India reached the final after suffering only one setback in the tournament — a defeat to the South Africa national cricket team in the Super 8 stage. That loss forced the team to fight hard to stay in contention, including a crucial match against the West Indies cricket team. However, since that defeat, Suryakumar Yadav’s side has shown dominant form heading into the title clash.
Their semi-final against the England national cricket team was a thrilling contest. India posted a massive 253 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and eventually secured victory by just seven runs.
Meanwhile, New Zealand arrive in the final with strong momentum after a commanding performance in the semi-final. They defeated South Africa — the only unbeaten team in the tournament at that point — by nine wickets. The victory was powered by a record-breaking unbeaten century from Finn Allen, who reached the milestone in just 33 balls, delivering a stunning performance that crushed the Proteas’ hopes.
