PTC News Desk: The Executive Board of Commonwealth Sport has officially recommended Ahmedabad, India, as the prospective host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which will coincide with the centenary of the event first held in Ontario.

According to a statement from Commonwealth Sport, Ahmedabad’s proposal will now go before the full membership for approval at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow on November 26, 2025. If endorsed, Ahmedabad will become the second Indian city to host the Games, following New Delhi in 2010.

India’s bid forms part of its broader ambition to host the 2036 Olympic Games, while Nigeria had also submitted a competing bid for the 2030 edition.

The recommendation comes after a detailed assessment by the Commonwealth Sport Evaluation Committee, which reviewed candidate cities across various parameters such as infrastructure, governance, athlete experience, technical readiness, and alignment with Commonwealth Sport values. The process was guided by the organisation’s ‘Games Reset’ principles, focused on innovation, inclusivity, and collaboration.

Both Ahmedabad and Abuja presented strong, forward-looking proposals that underscored the growing influence of the Commonwealth Sport Movement.

The 2030 Games are expected to feature participants from 72 nations and territories, driving significant employment, tourism, and economic growth across sectors beyond sport. India also aims to host an inclusive edition, reinstating several medal events that were omitted from the 2026 Games, including hockey, cricket, badminton, wrestling, table tennis, diving, rugby sevens, beach volleyball, mountain biking, squash, and rhythmic gymnastics.
