PTC News Desk: Indian ace batter Rinku Singh's father, Khanchand Singh, passed away on February 27 after a prolonged battle with stage 4 liver cancer. He breathed his last at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, where he had been undergoing treatment in recent days as his condition deteriorated.

He was placed on ventilator support and was receiving renal therapy as doctors continued to stabilise him. Despite intensive care, his health kept deteriorating rapidly and doctors could not revive him.

Rinku Singh suffered a personal loss during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, as his father passed away after battling Liver cancer.

Personal loss during tournament duty

The tragic news came while Rinku was part of the Indian squad. He had briefly returned home when his father’s condition worsened ahead of India’s Super 8 match against Zimbabwe, but later rejoined the team in Chennai. His father had been fighting liver cancer for a long time, and his health deteriorated significantly in recent weeks, leading to hospitalisation and eventual death.

Team changes and match involvement

Rinku was not included in India’s playing XI for the Zimbabwe match, as the team made tactical changes. Sanju Samson and Axar Patel were brought into the lineup. Samson returned to the top order, Ishan Kishan moved down the batting order, and Tilak Varma was assigned finishing responsibilities.

Although he did not play in the XI, Rinku remained with the squad and contributed as a substitute during the match, continuing to support the team despite his personal tragedy.

Tournament performance

So far in the tournament, Rinku has played five matches and scored 24 runs, performing primarily in his finishing role for India.
