Rishabh Panth likely to be ruled out of England series due to toe fracture
The development comes as a major blow to Indian team amid pivotal phase of the series as Pant was forced to retire hurt after he was struck on the right foot.
PTC News Desk: In a major setback for India, Rishabh Pant is unlikely to be part of the remainder Manchester Test and is expected to be ruled out of the ongoing series against England due to fractured right toe.
The development comes as a major blow to Indian team amid pivotal phase of the series as Pant was forced to retire hurt after he was struck on the right foot.
"Rishabh Pant was hit on his right foot while batting on Day 1 of the Manchester Test. He was taken for scans from the stadium. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress," the BCCI said in a statement.
While batting on 37 in the 68th over, Rishabh Pant attempted a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes. The ball took a slight inside edge before striking his toe. England appealed for an LBW, but replays showed a clear edge, saving him from dismissal — although he was clearly in pain. Medical personnel rushed to assist him, and Pant was eventually taken off the field on a golf cart marked as an ambulance. Blood was visible through his boot, and his foot had already started to swell. He was immediately sent for scans.
This marks Pant’s second injury of the series. Earlier, he had bruised a finger while wicketkeeping during the third Test at Lord's, leading to Dhruv Jurel stepping in as substitute keeper for England’s second innings.
The injury came at a particularly inopportune time for India, as Pant was settling in and gaining momentum at the crease. His sudden exit leaves a void in the middle order, and it also casts doubt on his availability for key upcoming events, including the Asia Cup and the beginning of India’s home season.
