PTC News Desk: In a move exuding great compassion for fellow cricketers and setting aside old rivalries, some of cricket's most celebrated figures  from Sunil Gavaskar to Greg Chappell have signed a joint appeal to the government of Pakistan demanding fair treatment for former prime minister and World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan.

The open letter seeking basic dignity and urgent medical intervention was signed by 14 former captains spanning six decades of the game, including Mike Atherton of England; Allan Border, and Ian and Greg Chappell, of Australia; Gavaskar and Kapil Dev of India; Clive Lloyd of the West Indies; and John Wright of New Zealand.

"We the undersigned former captais of our national cricket teams, write with deep concern regarding the reported treatment and incarceration conditions of Imran Khan, the distinguished former Captain of Pakistan and a legendary figure in world cricket," the plea said.

Cricket veterans in the plea reminded Pakistan government of Imran Khan's distinguished career and his massive achievements.

"Imran Khan's contributions to the game are universally admired. As captain he led Pakistan to their historic 1992 Cricket World Cup victory- a triumph build on skill, resilience, leadership and sportsmanship that inspired generations across borders," the plea added.

Imran Khan has reportedly lost 85% vision in one eye after being incarcerated for over 800 days and his plight has been deteriorating, raising serious concerns about his treatment in jail.

Beyond cricket, Imran Khan served as prime minister of Pakistan and lead the nation through a very challenging period.
