Well see about it tomorrow: Pak captain Salman Agha on handshake with Indian players
India captain Suryakumar Yadav had stated in Dubai last September during the Asia Cup that his team would not shake hands with Pakistan as a mark of respect for the Indian citizens who were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack in April last year
PTC News Desk: Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha remained non-committal on whether his team will shake hands ahead of the T20 World Cup clash on Sunday.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav had stated in Dubai last September during the Asia Cup that his team would not shake hands with Pakistan as a mark of respect for the Indian citizens who were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack in April last year. The move was also seen as a show of solidarity with the Indian Army during ‘Operation Sindoor’.
The same approach is likely to be followed on Sunday, with neither captain expected to shake hands either at the toss or after the match.
Responding to a question on whether the practice would continue, Pakistan captain Salman Agha said, “We will see about it tomorrow.”
With tensions surrounding the match after Pakistan’s initial boycott, Agha sought to avoid controversy and expressed hope that both sides would uphold the spirit of the game. “I expect the game should be played in the spirit it has always been played since its inception,” he said.
He also admitted India’s strong record in World Cups, saying, “We don’t have a good record against India in World Cups, but we can’t change history.”
Speaking about spinner Usman Tariq, Agha described him as the team’s ‘trump card’. “We don’t care about the talk regarding his action. Usman’s action has been cleared twice, and I don’t know why it is being discussed,” he added.
