Canada Punjabi man murder: A Punjabi-origin man was shot dead inside a commercial building in Surrey, Canada, in what investigators believe to be a targeted attack linked to organised crime.

According to initial reports, armed assailants entered the second floor of a building located on 76 Avenue and opened fire at the victim as he was exiting the lobby area. The sudden gunfire triggered panic among people present at the site, who alerted the police.

By the time Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers arrived, the victim was found lying in a pool of blood. Emergency responders attempted to revive him, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The attackers fled the spot soon after carrying out the shooting and remain at large.

Police officials have not yet released the identity of the deceased. However, the case has been handed over to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), which is treating the incident as a planned killing rather than a random act of violence.

Meanwhile, controversy escalated after alleged gangsters Rohit Godara and Pawan Shaukeen claimed responsibility for the murder through a social media post. In the message, the victim was referred to as “Sam,” and accused of working as a key aide of rival groups. The post further alleged that he was involved in financing opposing gangs and running illegal betting and match-fixing operations from Canada.

Authorities are now verifying the authenticity of the social media claims and examining whether the account was genuinely operated by the accused or used to mislead investigators. The account in question has since been suspended.

Investigators are also exploring multiple angles, including organised betting networks, inter-gang rivalry and possible international links. Some reports suggest that the deceased, believed to be originally from Punjab, was locally known by the name “Sam” and operated an office in the same building.

Law enforcement agencies are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and tracking vehicles seen near the crime scene around the time of the incident. Officials have appealed to the public to share any relevant information, including dashcam recordings, that could assist in identifying the suspects.
