As Kanwar Yatra 2021 cancels, Uttarakhand opts home delivery of Gangajal
Home delivery of Gangajal: As the Uttarakhand government cancelled the Kanwar Yatra 2021 in view of a possible third wave of the coronavirus, the Haridwar DM has come up with a new way.
The administration has decided to take an new innovative step to make sure rituals can proceed as per usual.

Haridwar District Magistrate C Ravishankar said that "We've started process of sending Gangajal via post to devotees."

"We're planning to supply Gangajal in tankers and are in talks with administration of neighbouring states to avoid large number of gathering," said Ravishankar on home delivery of Gangajal.
However, it has not been clarified on how one can sign up for this postal delivery system or when and where the tankers would arrive.
The newly appointed Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, while cancelling the Kanwar Yatra 2021, said that they did not wanted Haridwar to become "the centre of COVID-19".
This is the second consecutive year that the yatra has been cancelled due to the deadly virus.
On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh has decided to go ahead with the yatra while the Supreme Court has taken a suo motu cognizance of the decision. The apex court has asked the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government to clarify their stand on the issue.
