Sukhbir Badal asks Govt to reward Asian gold medalist Navjot Kaur with job as DSP

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today while appreciating the Congress government for appointing India’s Women cricket world cup star Harmanpreet Kaur as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the country’s first women wrestler to bag a gold in the Asian Wrestling Championship – Navjot Kaur – should also be rewarded with the same post.

In a statement here, the SAD president said Navjot, who is a resident of Tarn Taran, had risen above all difficulties including a major injury two years back, to record a convincing victory at the Asian championship recently. “While Navjot’s victory is fulfillment of a long awaited dream for Indian women wrestlers, it is also a moment of pride for Punjab and Punjabis”.

While requesting the State government to appoint Navjot as a DSP, Mr Sukhbir Badal said the State should also help the star wrestler in preparing for the Asian Games as well as the Tokyo Olympics by releasing a suitable financial grant for the same.

“The wrestler’s family has supported Navjot to the best of their ability despite meager resources at their command. The State should take up this responsibility now”, he added.

The SAD president stated medals were coming Punjab’s way because of the thrust to sport and sporting infrastructure during the SAD-BJP government.

“This includes creating six astro-turf stadiums as well as ten multi-purpose stadiums. Sportspersons were also encouraged to excel in their respective fields with government jobs being given to Kabaddi players besides financial awards through Maharaja Ranjit Singh awards which were given to 67 outstanding players. This tempo must be maintained to ensure our sportspersons continue to win laurels for the State and the country”, he added. -PTC News
