Avian Influenza: 11,200 birds culled on first day of culling operation in Derabassi
Culling operation in Derabassi: In an order to stop the spread of the Avian Influenza (Bird Flu in Mohali), around 11,200 birds were culled at Alfa Poultry Farm in village Bhera in Derabassi, Aashika Jain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) said on Friday. According to the information, around one hundred men were engaged in the operation who worked for around over eight hours to conduct the culling operation in Mohali's Derabassi. Thereafter, the birds were buried in deep pits and covered with lime. The culling would continue on the same farm as a similar number of birds are expected to be culled on Saturday as well. Also Read | Bird Flu cases confirmed in Mohali, 25 culling teams deployed After the completion of the exercise at Alfa poultry farm in Derabassi, the teams would move to Royal Poultry farm in the same area and conduct a similar exercise. Once the culling is complete, a massive sanitization exercise will be conducted and the entire operation would complete in 7-10 days, informed the ADC. So far, the Bird flu has been confirmed in 9 States — Kerala, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab — in poultry birds.
