Azlan Shah Hockey: Two goals in 4 minutes by Jung Manjae carries Korea through against Poles
In an absorbing encounter, Jung Manjae with two goals in last four minutes helped South Korea to thwart spirited challenge of Poland in the 28th Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament in Ipoh on Tuesday. The 3-2 win for Korea was its third from as many games and keeps it in hunt for the podium finish.
A goal in the 50th minute had given the Poles a commanding lead in a game that saw the European team close to creating a major upset. But the Koreams came back strongly in the last five minutes, scoring twice through Jung Manjae in the 56th and 60th minute to convert a probable defeat into a splendid win.
Poland, after losing both its earlier games, started on a cautious note. Quickly settling down against fast moving Koreans, the Poles drew the first blood in the 28th minute when Joseph Hillyer surprised the Korean defence with an opportunist goal.
The Koreans had to wait till the game was 10 minutes into the second half to get a clear look at the Polish goal. In the 40th minute Lee Namyong, who scored tournament’s first hat trick on the opening day, got the equaliser with a brilliant field goal.Ten minutes later Jospeh Kurowski, however, had the Korean defence tied into a knot with a fine goal to put Poland ahead. With a possible defeat staring at its face, Korea went all out in last six minutes. Its efforts bore fruit when Jung Manjae scored twice to give the Koreans an exciting win.
