Cricket News: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to orgnaise Women’s Indian Premier League (IPL) or the Women’s T20 Challenge this year, news agency ANI reported. The tournament is under discussion.
A source within the body was quoted by ANI as saying: “Plan for women’s T20 challenge series is in our discussion. We have a plan for our women’s team also.
On being asked about the training camp for the players, it said that there will be a training camp and that they are working on it and soon will have a proper plan to execute. The source also added that there is a window in November, most likely from 1-10 but this is under discussion and that nothing has been decided as of now.
Women’s T20 Challenge was played for the first time in 2018. In a one-off match, the Supernovas were able to outclass the Trailblazers. In 2019, the BCCI conducted a three-team tournament instead of a one-off match featuring a new team — Velocity.
The BCCI had scheduled a 4-team tournament in the Women’s T20 Challenge with 7 matches, however, it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The IPL Governing Council meeting is scheduled to be held today to finalise the schedule and other arrangements for the men’s IPL which will be held in the UAE.
