SAD condemns Kangar and Dhillon for insulting family of Behbal Kalan police firing prime witness

Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday condemned Revenue minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar and chief minister’s Advisor Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon for insulting the family of former Sarpanch and prime witness in the Behbal Kalan firing case even as it asked the Congress government to explain why a witness of the Moga police firing case had now approached the high court for protection.

In a statement here, former minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said it was shocking that Congressmen were being accused of causing the death of one witness and trying to buy off another in two separate cases of police firings related to the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. He said the family of the Behbal Kalan Sarpanch had already indicted Kangar and Dhillon. “Now the prime witness in the Moga police firing case has claimed in a petition that he was offered an inducement of Rs two lakh in the form a signed cheque and promise of an equal amount more besides claiming danger to his life as his tormentors enjoyed government security. Nothing else could more conclusively prove government complicity in trying to save those who fired and killed innocent Sikhs”, he added.

Dr Cheema said it was shameful that instead of attending the last rites of former Behbal Kalan Sarpanch Surjit Singh at his village in Kotkapura, Congress leaders Gurpreet Kangar and Kushaldeep Dhillon held a press conference here with the sole purpose of defaming the wife of Surjit Singh purely because she had indicted them for being responsible for her husband’s death. Asserting that both Congress leaders were guilty of amoral conduct, Dr Cheema said they had poured salt on the wounds of the victim family by ridiculing the statement of Surjit’s wife Jasbir Kaur.

Dr Cheema also took both Congress leaders to task for trying to indulge in diversionary tactics. He said they well knew that it was not SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal who had leveled the accusations at them but the wife and son of the former Sarpanch. “The assertions of the victim family have been repeated many times. They are specific that Kangar and Kushaldeep were party to the mental and physical harassment of Surjit Singh. In the light of these assertions the Congress leaders cannot try to escape by stating that the entire issue was the result of a small village level altercation”. https://www.ptcnews.tv/harsimrat-kaur-badal-ludhiana-abattoir-ladhowal-mega-food-park-en/

The SAD leader also asked Kangar to explain whether he meant chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh was behind the raid on Surjit’s house by stating that he was not power minister when the raid took place. Dr Cheema said the issue was simple. “Punjabis want to know why Kangar and Dhillon had threatened the lone witness in the Behbal kalan police firing case. This accusation has come from Surjit’s wife Jasbir who has praised another Congressman Heera Sodhi so there is no question of doubting her account”.

Dr Cheema said in case Kangar and Dhillon were really open to an inquiry into the issue as claimed by them they should give it in writing to the chief minister to order a CBI probe into the accusations made by Jasbir Kaur. “This is however unlikely. Kangar and Dhillon did not even have the guts to resign and await findings of an inquiry into their role in silencing Surjit Singh. They want to stick to their chair so much that they even indulged in defamation of the victim family. We will not allow this to happen and will provide all needed legal assistance to the family to ensure it gets justice and the conspiracy behind the murder of Surjit Singh is exposed”, Dr Cheema added. -PTC News
