Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for appreciating, in the “Mann Ki Baat” broadcast, the human chain formed in the state last week to send across a message against dowry and child marriage.
“Thanks to the Prime Minister for appreciating the people of the state who formed the wonderful human chain in support of the drive to eradicate dowry and child marriage”, Kumar said in a tweet.
“A few days ago, Bihar came up with an interesting initiative. For eradicating social evils, a 13,000-km-long human chain was formed and through this drive people were sensitized towards social ills like dowry and child marriage”, Modi had said in the radio broadcast earlier in the day.
The prime minister had praised the human chain formed against social evils against dowry and child marriage and said flexibility and continuous efforts for self-correction are a hallmark of society.
“The entire state took the pledge to fight these social evils. Children, the elderly, enthusiastic youngsters, mothers and sisters, all joined. The human chain that began at Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan extended, without a break, to the borders of the state”, the prime minister had said.
The human chain was formed on January 21, exactly a year after a similar endeavour was undertaken in support of the state’s prohibition drive.
Kumar had launched campaigns against dowry and child marriage on October 2 last. PTI
