Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) postponed the release of its manifesto for the poll-bound state of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday to condole the demise of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. Senior party leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah was scheduled to release 'Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra', which is believed to address a slew of issues, such as nationalism, development, good governance and the development of the temple cities of Kashi and Mathura. The union minister along with the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Minister KP Maurya and state unit BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh observed a two-minute silence to pay homage to musical icon Lata Mangeshkar on the day.

The musical icon had been admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital since early January after she tested positive for Covid-19 and was also diagnosed with pneumonia. In memory of Lata Mangeshkar, a two-day national mourning period will be observed. As a token of respect, the national flag will be waved at half-mast for two days, and she will be given a State funeral. publive-image Coming back to BJP's manifesto for the upcoming assembly election in Uttar Pradesh, the party had also sought suggestions from the people for the drafting of the manifesto and is likely to accommodate some major suggestions. BJP is likely to make a big announcement in its UP poll manifesto. As per sources, BJP is likely to counter the 300 units of free electricity of the Samajwadi Party in its manifesto, besides an announcement about the outstanding electricity bill of the consumers. There's also a possibility that the BJP may make promises to farmers in its manifesto, which could be directed towards growers in the state's western regions. Several BJP leaders have stated that the party has fulfilled the majority of the promises made in the last election manifesto. publive-image In Uttar Pradesh, voting will take place in seven rounds on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27, and March 3 and 7. The results of the election will be announced on March 10. In the 2017 assembly elections in UP, the BJP had won a landslide victory, winning 312 seats and secured a 39.67 percent vote share in the polls for the 403-member assembly. Samajwadi Party (SP) bagged 47 seats, while BSP won 19. Congress managed to win only seven seats.
