Breaking News: Youth Olympic Games: Hockey 5s: Indian men enter final
Debutants India could not have asked for more in the Hockey 5s competition for men in the 3rd Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires on Saturday. Playing the hosts in semifinals in their maiden appearance was no deterrent for the Indians who after a 1-1 deadlock in the first half scored twice in the second half through Sudeep Chirmako to earn the right to play the gold medal match tomorrow.
Playing to a strategy, Indians worked out their moves in a manner that the hosts found little hard to counter. Starting aggressively, India took the lead in the third minute when Rahul Kumar Rajbahar found the net with a brilliant shot.
Though raiders from both teams attempted good shots yet goaltenders of either side gave an excellent account of themselves to keep the first half 1-1. After Rahul Kumar Rajbahar had scored, Argentina retaliated through a goal by Facundo Zarate in the 4th minute.
It was in the second half that Indians put everything into their game. Their well organised move created openings and gaps in their opponents territory and succeeded in scoring twice through Sudeep Chirmako in the 12th and 18th minutes to enter the final.
India will play the winners of Zambia and Malaysia in the final.
