Indian women's hockey team started its tour of Spain with a 0-3 defeat at Madrid on Tuesday evening. Led by mercurial Rani Rampal, the 20-member Indian squad is in Spain as a part of its preparation for the Vitality Women's World Cup in London and the Asian Games in Jakarta later this year.India will play five Test matches on the tour. Rani Rampal The first game, the third ever between the two nations, saw the hosts taking lead in the first quarter and consolidating the lead in the fourth and last quarter with goal-a-piece from a penalty stroke and a penalty corner. Of the eight games played between India and Spain so far, it was Spain's third win. The last series of two Test matches played in 2015, had seen India carrying the rubber with a 1-0 margin as the second Test had ended in a draw. Spain, ranked 11th in the world, started on a grand note building pressure from the start, taking lead in the sixth minute with a brilliant field goal by Berte Bonastre. Rani Rampal and he girls tried to rally back with some good moves but could not make a dent in the solid defence of the hosts. The second and third quarters remained goalless. The fourth quarter, however, saw the hosts going for a full press as they gave a harrowing time to Indian defence with repeated concerted attacks. In the 48th minute, one of their moves ended in a stroke that saw Lola Riera making no mistake with a flick from the dreaded spot. Even after taking 2-0 lead, the hosts did not relent and forced a penalty corner in the 52nd minute when Lola Reira again was called in to take the flick. She gave Indian defence no chance with a neat conversion. The second Test will be played on Wednesday evening.-
