Budget Session 2018: Pass triple talaq bill as New Year gift to Muslim women, urges PM Modi

In the Budget Session of the Parliament on Monday morning, Prime Minister Modi marking a need for Triple Talaq, he said, ‘I make a humble request to all parties that we can pass the bill on Triple Talaq. We have to pass this bill and protect the Muslim women.’ The Prime Minister urged the opposition to pass the bill as a New Year's gift to the Muslim women.  

He referred to the recent positive rankings given to the Indian economy by global agencies such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund and said,"Budget Session is important. The world is optimistic about India. Agencies like World Bank and IMF have been giving an optimistic opinion of the country." While on the other hand, President of India Ram Nath Kovind in the Budget Session 2018 said, Government should increased minimum wage of labourers by more than 40 per cent. Besides the triple talaq legislation, which criminalises instant talaq by Muslim men, the government is also likely to make a pitch for the passage of the OBC bill, which seeks to give a constitutional status to the OBC commission. The first spell of the session will end on February 9. Parliament will meet again between March 5 and April 6. The session will open with the customary address of the president to a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Following the address by President Ram Nath Kovind, the economic survey will be tabled in the two Houses. -PTC News
