Cabinet Gives Nod To Allotment Of 40 Acres For World-Class University At Mohali IT City In a bid to give a fillip to the IT and ITES industry, the Punjab Cabinet on Monday approved allotment of another site of 40 acres in SAS Nagar (Mohali) IT City for setting up a world-class technology university which would offer degrees in IT/Computer Components. To ensure transparency and fairness in the allotment process, proposal shall be called from the open market by providing wide publicity, whereby the applicants may pay as per the policy for allotment of land to University. Such proposals shall be scrutinized meticulously, as per the laid down procedure in the referred Policy, by adequately incorporating/amending members from concerned departments in the scrutiny committee, and the technically most sound institutions would be brought to IT City, an official spokesperson disclosed after the Cabinet meeting. In September 2017, the Cabinet had earlier allowed the use of a 50-acre site for the establishment of a world-class technology university with focus on IT and IT Enabled Services at IT City, SAS Nagar. The same has already been allotted through an open transparent process. Now, some more institutions have evinced keen interest in setting up another university in the IT City at SAS Nagar. Notably, the state government had identified IT and ITES industry as an important thrust area in its Industrial Investment Promotion Policy of 2013, and the IT Policy-2013 seeks to expand the existing IT Industry in Mohali to propel its growth as the best IT hub in the country. The IT City was developed in Mohali to promote for IT services, ITES, Bio-Technology (Non Polluting) and Technology based Non-Polluting/Research & Development Facilities in IT city at SAS Nagar. -PTC NEWS-
