Cabinet okays full extension of GoG Scheme to 3 Districts, partial roll out in others

The Punjab Cabinet has approved a full extension of the government’s 'Guardians of Governance' (GoG) scheme to three more districts and its partial roll-out in other districts of the state in the second phase. The scheme will be fully implemented in the three districts of Gurdaspur, Patiala, and Pathankot, as per the decision was taken by the cabinet under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. An official spokesperson later disclosed that the scheme, aimed at ensuring efficient and effective implementation of government schemes at the grassroots level, was now being extended in a phased manner across the state after its successful implementation in five districts in the first phase. An App based monitoring mechanism is fully functional to ensure its smooth working. The scheme is meant to harness the available pool of distinguished ex-servicemen to oversee the implementation of various schemes and programmes of the state government so that relief and assistance reach the needy and is not dissipated due to inefficiencies and leakages. Nearly, 2000 Guardians are proposed to be engaged at various levels under the scheme. The GoG scheme would help the state to oversee the implementation of Government schemes, increase transparency in governance, identify shortcomings/loopholes for corrective action by the concerned department, promote accountability at each level, put in place an effective monitoring mechanism at all levels of Governance up to the village level, and generate goodwill and faith in the administration. -PTC News
