Speaking to the media, Bhagwant Mann alleged that the previous government had used the money received under this fund elsewhere, which was for the development of village Mandis and roads. Mann said that his government was given suggestions by the BJP government to change the act and it was said that by changing the bill, this fund should be used only for the development of villages.
Bhagwant Mann tweeted that, "Release of RDF balance of ₹1760 crore stopped due to negligence of previous Punjab government...Met Union Minister @PiyushGoyal regarding arrangements in mandis, FCI and Bardana for paddy season... Union Minister directs immediate release of stalled RDF...remaining demands will also be granted.."
Due to the change in the act, now apart from the interest charged on the purchase money, this money will be spent on village Mandis and roads.
