Chandigarh Excise Dept refuses exemption for New Year Eve’s parties

Chandigarh excise and taxation department (ETDUT) has declined the request of owners of restaurants, bars and clubs who were seeking an extension of timings for the New Year Eve’s parties. ETDUT has directed the owners that the parties will end at 1 am only. Meanwhile, the Excise and Taxation Department has also said that if the entry passes are not stamped by the ETDUT they will be illegal and an evasion of tax on it. Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner, R K Chaudhary, stated that it was discussed with the Deputy Commissioner who is also the Excise and Taxation Commissioner. He said, "It has been decided that no extension will be given." "Many of the owners wanted that the extension of at least one to two hours be given beyond 1 am, but it has been decided that there will be no extension for the New Year eve's parties," Chaudhary said. The owners told the Excise Department that people would like to celebrate at least two hours beyond 1 am. The officials also added that "The parties can be disrupted in between if we receive a tip-off that the passes are not stamped by the Excise and Taxation Department. Meanwhile, there will be a penalty up to Rs 3 lakh on the club owners for it, if found guilty. https://www.ptcnews.tv/chandigarh-witnesses-the-coldest-december-night-in-5-years-en/ Lawyer and taxation expert Ajay Jagga told the Excise Department to make sure that all the restaurants/bars be asked to display the message that customers should have stamped entry ticket/pass and must get an invoice for every purchase. -PTC News
