Chandigarh: The price of onions has gone up to Rs 85 a kg on Tuesday. The white onion from Nashik at the apni mandis of the city are selling at Rs 85 per kg. Reportedly, the prices can rise further. Parlad Singh, President of the apni mandi, said that "Though supply trucks have started reaching the city, the price has risen too high and will take a time to come down. Punjab Mandi Board officials said that there was a short supply of white onions at the mandi that is why most of the traders were carrying red onions from Rajasthan that were selling at cost Rs 75 per kg. A vegetable trader, Rakesh, at the Sector 29 apni mandi, said that the traders have been getting red onions from the wholesalers as customers didn't want more expensive white variety. https://www.ptcnews.tv/himachal-pradesh-17-injured-as-overloaded-jeep-rolls-down-hill-in-kangra/ Officials of the Food and Supply Department of the UT government said that onion imported from countries such as Turkey, Iran and Afghanistan still haven't reached Chandigarh yet. Their supply would help bring down the prices of onions in the market. Meanwhile, the wholesale rates of onion at the grain market, Sector 26, have touched Rs 65 - Rs 70 per kg. -PTC News-
