Chandigarh: Son hurt at swimming pool, NRI woman sues golf club

Chandigarh: Son hurt at swimming pool, NRI woman sues golf club After the 5-year-old son of an NRI woman was hurt at a swimming pool in Chandigarh, she moved the Chandigarh District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum against the UT administration, Chandigarh Golf Club and its member. Complainant Simrit Jagdev said, “On the evening of August 4, my son Ranveer and my relatives went to the golf club to swim. Around 6.15pm, a glass piece penetrated into my son’s right ankle. It was from a broken drinking glass lying near the swimming pool that left him bleeding. He was rushed to a hospital as the wound required a surgery.” The management told the complainant that the negligence and carelessness of a member, who is a retired Army officer, led to injury to the child. However, the club did not take any action against the member who violated rules by carrying and leaving a drinking glass near the swimming pool, she said. “The incident spoiled our vacation in Chandigarh,” she said, adding that when accidents take place at a club’s swimming pool, its authorities should be held liable. Jagdev has sought a compensation of Rs 4 lakh, including medical expenses, besides a penalty of Rs 50,000 on the defaulters as a deterrent. -PTC News
