Chandigarh: Two cops arrested, suspended for publicly drinking alcohol
Two policemen have been arrested for publicly drinking alcohol at Krishna Market in Sector 41, Chandigarh on Saturday. The two policemen were suspended on Saturday. The suspension orders were issued by senior police officers after a video of them drinking in public went viral, allegedly on duty. The video was recorded by an eyewitness on Thursday night where the two policemen were seen in their uniform during the incident. The policemen have been identified as Head Constable (HC) Ranjeet Singh and Sub-Inspector Kulbir Singh. Ranjeet was posted at the Sarangpur police station while Kulbir Singh was posted at police lines in Sector 26. The duo were suspended with an immediate effect. Meanwhile, a case was registered against them under the Excise Act at Sector 39 police station. SSP Nilambri Vijay Jagdale's office issued suspension orders and also marked a regular departmental investigation against the two policemen. They were captured in a camera, drinking alcohol in Sector 39 market, near rehri vendor of eggs and chicken soup. In a video, one of the policemen was seen with a liquor bottle, pouring it in plastic glasses, while the other policeman is engaged in a conversation with the vendor." He also added that "The policeman was heard saying in the video that he don't need to be scared in the area." Meanwhile, the sources also revealed that the policemen were made to undergo medical examination, in which their blood and urine samples were taken for finding out the presence of alcohol in their body. -PTC News
