Won't Allow Another Kargil: Army Chief

Drass: The Indian Army chief, General Dalbir Singh, on Saturday said his troops will never allow a repeat of the 1999 Kargil conflict with Pakistan. On the eve of the 16th anniversary of Vijay Divas, he laid a wreath at the Kargil war memorial here and said: "We won't allow another Kargil."The Kargil war was fought in the summer of 1999 to evict Pakistani regular forces who had intruded and occupied posts vacated for the winter on the Indian side of the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. A commemorative function is held every year in the memory of the hundreds of Indian soldiers who died in the operation. Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year to mark the historic victory of the Indian Armed Forces over the adversary in the Kargil Sector.  The war is of  special significance for the Northern Command as no Army in the world has perhaps fought and won a war in the such adverse and challenging conditions.
