Chinese President Xi Jinping is all set to visit Chennai from October 11-12 for the second informal summit between India and China. PM Narendra Modi and the Chinese President attended the inaugural informal summit in Wuhan, China on April 27-28, 2018. The Chennai Informal Summit will provide them with the opportunity to continue discussions on bilateral, regional and global issues, besides exchanging views on ways to deepen the Sino-Indian development partnership.

However, since this is an informal meeting, no agreements and MoUs are expected to be signed. The Chinese President will be accompanied by the foreign minister and Politburo members. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold one-to-one talks with the Chinese president and delegation-level talks with the visitors.

There is no specific agenda for this meeting, which will focus on ways to improve people to people contact and maintenance of peace on the India-China border. The decision came a day after Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang spoke about the importance of deepening relations between India and China.
