CM should apologise from IAS Officer in the state for making a “mockery" of sexual harassment Dubbing the sexual harassment of senior IAS officer as "harrowing" and accusing the Chief Minister Amarinder Singh for taking a "frivolous "attitude towards addressing such a grave complaint by the lady  officer senior Vice President of SAD Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal said today that the Cabinet Minister should be immediately sacked. Grewal reasoned that sexual harassment was covered under 354 Indian Penal Code and was a serious crime against women he regretted that "what is the safety of women employees in the state if the Chief Minister tries to condescendingly rub it aside by making a statement from his vacation that "its been resolved". Alleging that if a senior IAS officer is being the brunt of the Ministers sexual advances and inappropriate behaviour what must be the junior level women employees plight. Most do not have the confidence and face social stigma to come out in the open and complain, he reasoned. Incidentally this is the first " Me Too" situation which has raised its head in the state where the lady officer has formally lodged a complaint and the Chief Minister has the audacity to brush it aside by stating that the Minister has apologised . "we raise a strong objection that the CM cannot decide that a mere apology is sufficient . Concrete action under 345 IPC should be taken and a case registered against the Minister. The Chief Minister as head of the government should set an example that women workforce is provided a safe environment to work. Mere apologies extended by the Minister are not adequate justice to the trauma and harassment the officer went through. He also alleged that this is not the first time acquisitions against this Minister have been made. Reasoning that a Cabinet Minister is a public figure and his behaviour and demeanour has to be exemplary on the contrary Kavita Singh had to write to the CM and to the Congress party President Rahul Gandhi at her plight but both have evaded to address this issue of " sexual harassment"He  said the Congress Party had a mindset of ignoring women rights and was parochial in its vision . We demand immediate dismissal of the minister . " he said. Alleging that what precedent is the chief minister setting by stating that a mere apology will suffice. While the centre Government has set up a Group of Ministers to look into and revamp the Sexual Harassment at work place Act 2013 the chief minister Amarinder Singh makes a " mockery " of such a grave issue concerning workplace safety for women. Grewal further reiterated that SAD will pursue this grave issue to its logical end till justice is dispensed and sexual harassment is not treated "frivolously" by the state government. -PTC NEWS-
