Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has announced a holiday tomorrow to mark the Parkash Utsav of Sri Guru Ravidass ji.
Announcing a holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881, Captain Amarinder Singh greeted people on the auspicious occasion marking the Parkash Utsav of the great poet, saint and social reformer who led the North Indian Bhakti movement.
In his message, the Chief Minister called upon the people to imbibe the teachings of love, compassion, mutual tolerance, universal brotherhood and oneness of mankind propagated by Sri Guru Ravidass.
Sri Guru Ravidass espoused the cause of contentment of life and dignity of labour to carve out an egalitarian society, which had no place for ills such as casteism and discrimination, said Captain Amarinder, adding that the ideology of Guru Ravidass for creation of a casteless and classless society continues to motivate and inspire one and all.
The Chief Minister exhorted the people to celebrate the 'Parkash Utsav' of Guru Ravidass collectively, rising above the parochial considerations of caste, creed, colour and religion.
