Cold conditions prevail in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, Jan 20 (PTI) Cold conditions continued unabated in most parts of Punjab and Haryana today even as dense fog adversely affected air, rail and road traffic in the region. Amritsar in Punjab was the coldest place in the region with a low of 3.6 degrees Celsius, a MeT office spokesman said here. Karnal with a low of 4.2 degrees Celsius was the coldest place in Haryana. Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a minimum temperature at 4.2 degrees Celsius which was two degrees Celsius below normal. Moderate to dense fog in the region affected air and rail schedule due to poor visibility, officials said. Amongst the train running behind schedule in the region included New Delhi Chandigarh Kalka Shatabdi, Mumbai Amritsar Express, Ajmer Jammu Tawi Puja Express and Katihar Amritsar Express. A number of flights from various destinations, including Bangalore and Delhi were also operating behind schedule. Besides, motorists moved at a slow pace on roads due to thick blanket of fog. The weather is likely to be dry in the region during the coming 48 hours. Moderate to dense fog is also expected at a number of places in Punjab and Haryana.
