Chandigarh: Punjab and Haryana continued to be under the grip of cold weather conditions, with Adampur being the coldest place in both the states after recording a low of 6.1 degrees Celsius. Gurdaspur and Bathinda in Punjab registered below normal temperature at 7.8 degrees and 8.3 degrees Celsius respectively. Halwara (9.7 degrees), Pathankot (8.1 degrees) and Amritsar (8 degrees) also registered below normal minimum temperatures, a MeT Department official said here. The cold weather conditions also prevailed in Patiala, where the minimum temperature settled at 9.6 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal, while Ludhiana recorded a low of 10.1 degrees. Union Territory Chandigarh registered a low of 9.5 degrees Celsius, down three notches against normal. In Haryana, Karnal was the coldest place after recording the minimum temperature of 6.8 degrees Celsius, six notches below normal. Hisar too experienced a cold night at 8.6 degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal. Ambala recorded a low of 11.3 degrees Celsius, down three degrees against normal. The MeT attributed the recent dip in mercury in the plains of Punjab and Haryana to fresh spell of snowfall last week at many places in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. — PTI-
