Cold waves are sweeping Punjab but students in Punjab have not received their uniform in government schools till date.

As per Scheme, all students belonging to SC or ST categories and girl students studying in primary schools up to Class VIII are given two uniforms in a year. Under the scheme, Rs 400 is being given to government school students every year for uniform. According to sources, Education Department has not received funds from the state government to buy new uniforms.

Due to non payment of funds by state government to the Education Department, students are being forced to wear old uniforms or their parents are shelling out money out of their own pocket to buy new uniforms.

According to a official, the department had received only a part of the Centre’s 60% share of the total Rs 76.57 lakh, but the department had received nothing from the 40% share of the state government.
