In commemoration of 87th Air Force Day, a media interaction by Air Commodore Sanjiv Ghuratia, Air Officer Commanding 3 Base Repair Depot was held on Monday. The media was briefed about 3 Base Repair Depot's achievements, Life Extension, and Indigenisation Projects. A presentation was given about the worthy services rendered by 3 Base Repair Depot to the nation both during war and peace. 3 Base Repair Depot, Air Force was established on 01 Feb 1962. The role of the Depot was to overhaul and repair Russian transport aircraft, helicopters, their aero-engines, and aggregates. The Depot undertook extensive repair, overhaul and rendered spares support to all the war waging machinery and ensured the highest serviceability to support the wars of 1965 & 1971. The Depot was initially undertook repair and overhaul of AN-12, IL-14 aircraft, Mi-4 helicopters, its engines, and the aggregates. https://www.facebook.com/ptcnewsonline/videos/928824914182644/?t=26 During 1980, overhauling of Mi-8 helicopters, TV02 Aero-engines and VR-8 MGB commenced. Eventually, in 1991, the Depot graduated to the task of overhauling the Mi-17 helicopters together with overhauls of Al-20D engines, propellers of AN-32 and IL-38 (Indian Navy). At present, the Depot has been entrusted with the responsibility of establishing Repair and overhaul Line of VK-2500 engines of newly inducted Medium Light Helicopters (MLH) to ensure post-production maintenance support capability for the MI-17V5 fleet. Overhaul in India of VK-2500 aero-engines will gradually reduce the burden on the foreign exchequer and move forward towards the Depot’s commitment of self-reliance under “Make in India” mission.
