Congress gripped in  fear psychosis over SAD’s Patiala rally: Dhindsa

Wary of the success and fall out of the scheduled “Anti-repression Rally” of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) slated for October 7 at Patiala, the Punjab government is hell bent on creating obstacles through district administration in its preparations.

In a hard hitting statement, party’s secretary general Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said the dilly- dally on granting permission for the site  rally site clearly reflected nervousness and anxiety on the party of the Chief Minister  Amarinder Singh who is progressively losing ground on his home turf Patiala which is his home district too.

“The resounding success of the event would strike a death knell of his political carrier,” he added.

Dhindsa said that the district administration had denied permission to hold rally in Patiala city on none of the proposed venues – Polo Ground, City grain market or at the back of aviation Club where the rallies have been held in the past.

Finally, the rally was permitted at Mehmadpur grain market which is ten kilometer away from the city when it became evident the SAD would approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Strangely, the Patiala grain market was denied on the ground that paddy procurement would start on Oct.1 but ironically the Congress itself is organizing its own rally on the same day at Killianwali village grain market in Lambi constituency, averred Dhindsa.

Senior SAD leader and former Union minister Dhindsa said that the Congress is seriously suffering from a fear psychosis which had shown it’s palpable signs when it made a desperate attempt to cancel the party’s rally at Faridkot on September 16 but the Punjab and Haryana High Court came to SADs’ rescue. The flimsy and cooked up grounds invented by the ruling party to deny permission were shred to pieces by the Court and the government had to concede the SAD right to hold a rally.

Dhindsa said the Congress is once again playing the same game and creating hurdles one after another. He apprehended that the Congress in league with district administration would put up restrictions on movements of vehicles, workers and diversions to ensure minimum attendance but all this won’t be any avail.

“ There is overall resentment in  the general public against Amarinder Singh on the ground that on one hand he has failed to honour his  poll promises  while on  the other, he has joined hands with radicals who are out to disturb peace and communal harmony in the state”, said  Dhindsa.
