Congress indulging in politics over sacrilege: Sukhbir Singh Badal

Amritsar: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday accused the Congress party of doing politics on the issue of sacrilege. He also slammed those who attempted sacrilege and those who are doing politics on it. After paying obeisance at Golden Temple in Amritsar, the SAD president said that the sole objective of the Congress party was to tarnish the image of Shiromani Akali Dal, the representative body of the Panth. Also Read | Punjab extends Covid restrictions till February 1; read details Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the investigation led by Kunwar Vijay Pratap also had a conspiracy to defame SAD which was rejected by the High Court and hence Kunwar Vijay Pratap had to resign. The SAD president said that "we wanted our government to arrest the culprits but we were pressurised to hand over the investigation to CBI." He said that instead of catching the culprits for the last five years, the Congress government has been playing politics on it. On sacrilege incident at Golden Temple in Amritsar, Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the Punjab Police failed to identify the culprit and immediately cremated him. Likewise, he referred to another incident where a man was apprehended inside the Golden Temple for throwing the 'Gutka Sahib' into the shrine lake.
