Police have arrested two persons for allegedly murdering Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) worker Charanjit Garg and his wife Pooja in Sangrur.
The accused have been identified as Pradeep Sharma and Anupam Kumar, alias Pompy, former Congress municipal councillor.
Police on Sunday registered a case of murder against Rakesh Sharma, alias Jassi, his brother Pradeep, Jaidev Jojo and Pompy. The main accused, Jassi, who owed Rs 5 lakh to Garg, and his accomplice Jojo are still at large.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sandeep Garg said during interrogation, the accused said that Garg was murdered over a monetary dispute. “Jassi was reluctant to return the money. The accused said both Jassi and Garg had several meetings to settle the dispute, but to no avail,” the SSP said.
