Controversial TV series banned after objections by Valmiki Community

The television serial on the Ramayana, “Ram Siya ke Luv-Kush” was banned in Punjab on the grounds of objections raised by the Valmiki community. According to members of the Valmiki community, the serial presents wrong facts about Bhagwan Valmiki, thereby hurting their religious sentiments. Sporadic protests are however, still going on across the state. The Punjab home department order on the issue says, apprehension of repercussions on public order, peace and communal harmony, it would be appropriate if screening of the serial is banned. After this, district magistrates got the serial suspended for one month under Section 19 of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995.
