While nation is celebrating National Press Day, Vice-president Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday said that, “Sensationalism has become order of the day, sensational news means senseless news. With Business groups, political parties and personalities setting up TV channels and newspapers to further their interests, core values of journalism are getting eroded.”

Adding, he said “You may ask me, do the political parties have no right to start a newspaper? Yes, but it should be mentioned, this is a newspaper by so and so political party.”

Meanwhile, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal wished media on National Press Day. She said, “I greet members of the media on the crucial role they have played to maintain socio-political transparency and accountability. I hope the media continues to uphold the highest tenets of journalism in the larger interests of the nation.”
