Coronavirus tally in India crosses 6 lakh; death toll rises to 17,834

India reported 434 new deaths and 19,148 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, as of Thursday morning. The total number of positive cases in India has increased to 6,04,641 including 2,26,947 active cases, 3,59,860 cured and discharged and 17,834 deaths, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare said on Thursday. A total of 11,881 COVID-19 patients in India were declared cured and discharged in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra is the worst-hit state with a total of 1,80,2998 cases out of which 93,154 cases have been cured. A total of 5,537 new cases and 198 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours in the state. Likewise, 2,243 were declared cured. Tamil Nadu has taken over the national capital. It has a total of 94,049 cases out of which 52,926 have been declared cured. Delhi is on the third spot with 89,902 cases out of which 59,992 patients have been declared cured. GOVERNMENT OF INDIA Urges States to Ramp up COVID-19 TESTING Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Prison Department stated that a total of 363 inmates and 102 jail staff have tested positive for COVID-19 till date. 4 inmates have died due to the contagion disease.
