Rumour mongers beware! Chandigarh police to take strict action against fake news

In an order to stop rumour-mongering, the Chandigarh Police on Saturday issued an advisory to stay away from fake news. In an advisory, the Chandigarh police wrote: "As everyone is aware that COVID-19 is on the rise in India and in other countries as well. It has been noticed that some people are posting fake unauthenticated news and posts on social media regarding COVID-19, thus creating panic in the general public." "So, all are requested to not to post on social media any such/forward message/post. If any person found creating panic/unrest in the General public through such type of posts on social media, he will be dealt as per relevant provision of law," it added.

Coronavirus in Chandigarh

So far, Chandigarh has reported five confirmed cases of coronavirus. The first case is of a young female Fiza, who was found positive on Thursday. Further, three individuals (including Fiza's mother, brother, and cook) who came in contact with the patient have tested positive. The father of Fiza has been tested negative. Meanwhile, the sample of Driver will be taken again. For now, the father and the driver have been home quarantined. Secondly, a new case of a lady who was earlier admitted in PGI (returned from the UK) tested positive on Friday.
